Brighton is at the heart of the British seaside and home to the British Airways i360, with stunning views of the coastline and located close to one of our other favourite venues, the AMEX stadium – and, this year, the beach front venue has gone one step further with a mini street food market on the West Beach Upper Deck. Located under the i360, this vast terrace is elevated just above Brighton beach and has uninterrupted views of the old West Pier.
This summer the market is open throughout September, from midday to 9pm daily, and sells everything from classic burgers, to Latin inspired sushi and vegan gelato – all served from colourful beach huts overlooking the sea! .
There’s also the option to chill out with a drink on this vast sun deck, with some draught Harvey’s, bottled beers, chilled rose or an Aperol Spritz from the pop up bar!
Meet the Stall Holders
We’ve been catching up with stall holders - and eating their food of course! This week we spoke to Bella and CJ Street Food, who sell American-inspired treats including quirky burgers and hot dogs, waffles, ice cream, crepes and milkshakes.
Whilst we loved everything we ate, some stand out dishes include their Nutella, banana and strawberry waffles and their ‘hot and spicy’ 6 oz burger with chilli cheese, jalapeños and siracha.
What is the ‘origins story’ of Bella & CJ Street Food.
It’s a small, family business, that we run as a couple. Started over 20 years ago, we’ve catered a wide range of events in our time.
Are you Brighton local and, if so, how does that feed into what you do?
We’re not from Brightonbut absolutely love the city and regular visits are a must for us.
If not, how would you describe the Brighton food scene as you’ve experienced it?
Very different and a lot of variety.
What is your favourite dish on the stall and why?
Oreo Milkshake … of course.
What is your most popular dish?
Classic Burger (it’s a classic!)
Where do you get your inspiration for your dishes?
Internet Trolling and Pinterest. We also share what we do on Facebook and have done for five years or so – this lets us see the public’s reaction to what we’re putting out there and listening to the feedback.
The i360 at West Beach Brighton
The British Airways i360 itself is stunning; a tourist attraction like no other. It is comprised of a glass viewing pod that lifts 450ft into the air and gives completely unique views of the Brighton’s most iconic sites, painted rooftops and of course one of the UK’s best views of Brighton’s sunset.
There are a range of dining and entertainment packages available on the i360 too, as well as private hire of beach space available for all types of events – including weddings and receptions.
