Inspiring Outlooks: Winter Weddings

By poppy millett -

Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events are re-appropriating the phrase ‘a white wedding.’ We are referring to a wedding on one of those beautifully bright, fresh winter days, with frost glistening in the trees and fairy lights twinkling all about. Though, on the other side of the (dowry) coin, there’s something rather charming - and terribly British - about a winter wedding where wellingtons are involved and all your guests are cosy and jolly indoors.

Evidently, here at Prestige Venues & Events we’re very pro winter wedding and want others to appreciate ‘love in a cold climate’ as much as we do. So here is a list of encouragements, tips, tricks and special offers to help you make the most of your winter-seasonal ceremony and/or reception:

  1. Venues are at their best in December.

Event venues all-round the UK will be best dressed in December. This is when they’re prepared for all the month’s Christmas parties, complete with flower arrangements, candles and fairy lights and so helping you save on the decoration budget, even if only partially.

  1. The Athenaeum’s Wedding Fare.

On Sunday 7th October the beautiful, Grade I listed Athenaeum will be hosting a free wedding fare. Taking place between 10am and 3pm, there’ll be just under a hundred helpful stalls as well as a free glass of bubbly & bridal goody bag for the first 150 brides to be.

The Athenaeum’s elegant, chandeliered Ballroom is also an ideal setting for wedding ceremonies and receptions itself. This ornate and impressive space is completed with a grand, high celling, a balcony and a sweeping staircase for that fairy tale entrance and as the perfect backdrop for magical photographs.

  1. More for less.

Bar December’s Christmas parties, winter tends to be a quieter time in the events calendar, with most of us tucking ourselves up at home to avoid the cold. This however means more availability in terms of dates (perfect for those who just can’t wait more than a year to get hitched!), lower prices or special offers and incentives. Plus, it gives your friends and loved ones a fabulous occasion to leave the house!

  1. Don’t sweat it.

The cold weather is a bride’s ally. Your painstakingly painted and beautiful make-up won’t slide off in the heat. It will run however when everyone gets a little emotional – but we can’t blame the weather for that.

  1. Special wedding offers at Dundas Castle.

The magical Dundas Castle - located just 30 minutes outside of Edinburgh - has a few special offers available for those looking to get hitched in Jan – Feb 2019. These include a discounted facility fee and extra complimentary canapes for each of your guests with the catering package.

  1. Winter weather: the pros.

We know, more or less, what to expect of the winter weather. What this means for your wedding is no nasty surprises i.e. you book a summer wedding and pray that rain doesn’t ruin the day; you book a winter wedding and you’re impervious to the elements, prepared for it to be chilly and for you and your guests to be cosy.

  1. Marry in the winter garden.

The stunning Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is offering up to £1000 off their All Inclusive Winter Wedding Package, at only £5995!

Available for remaining dates from November 2018 – March 2019. Call their dedicated Wedding Planner, Sara, on 0131 552 1974 or visit atthebotanics.co.uk for more information.

  1. A special time of year.

In the UK winter runs from October to March. Of the months that compile winter, there are a few that are already imbued with meaning: December (aka the most wonderful time of the year), January (start the year right with your dream wedding) and February (the most romantic month of the year according to a certain St Valentine).
