History of St. James Park, Newcastle

The stadium was originally built and used for football in 1880 and has been the home of Newcastle United since 1892. Over the last 125 plus years the stadium has grown dramatically and is one of the core venues in the region, as well as being the heartbeat of the city of Newcastle.

As well as being the home of Newcastle United, the venue has been home to some iconic moments in history of the years – including group games for the Rugby Union World Cup in 2015, a number of football matches within the 2012 Olympics and Euro 96 and the host venue for a number of England internationals dating back to 1901. It has also seen performers such as Ed Sheeran, The Rolling Stones and Queen grace the venue for concerts.
