Sports and Leisure goes the extra mile for charity

By Prestige Venues and Events -

Considering recent events and as part of the UK Government measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus, it was recently announced that football fixtures would be immediately suspended until the 3rd, April. With produce and food already bought and prepared for fixtures, it fell on different clubs to make a decision on what the best way forward was both in the immediate and for the long term of the community in the event of ongoing lockdown and isolation for many (particularly vulnerable people).

In line with Sodexo’s commitment to fighting food waste and eliminating food poverty, and alongside one of our popular venues – Ewood Park, the home of Blackburn Rovers – we looked to find a solution and ensure food went to the people who need it most.

The team at Blackburn arranged for the food to be both packaged and prepared for donation to local food banks and homeless shelters.

Charity Donations

The food was split between two charities that provide accommodation for those in need in the local area.

These are Bramwell Lifehouse housing 54 men and women and the Foyer supporting young people aged 16 to 25.

Helping Those Around You

Outside of charitable donations and at this time of need, simply thinking about a neighbour or checking on a loved one can make a huge difference and we would urge everybody to pick up the phone, contact loved ones and those around them and reach out to ask if any help is needed.
